Proposal for a Special Issue: Sustainable Logistics

The increasing population not only has an impact on natural resources, it also results in greater pollution and contributes to greater levels of poverty in some regions. Stakeholders must rethink, realign, and optimize their existing strategies along the three components of sustainability: environmental, societal, and economic. Logistics activities are one of the main sources of pollution, and adding sustainability dimensions that capture the environmental and social objectives can help all the organizations to meet governmental and international standards in this regard. Research is needed to further analyze and shape the implementation of sustainable limitations in all the supply chains and logistics networks with the help of advanced operations research (OR) methods and efficient solution algorithms that are motivated by novel heuristics and metaheuristics.

The scope of this special issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • Sustainable supply chain management
  • Multi-objective logistics problems and algorithms
  • Designing sustainable and or green logistics
  • Large-scale optimization problems and algorithms
  • Fuzzy and or stochastic programming approaches
  • Combinatorial optimization in logistics application
  • Novel heuristics and or metaheuristics
  • Managing environmental, economic and social goals based on the triple bottom lines of sustainability
  • Reverse logistics and closed-loop supply chain networks
  • Sustainable consumption and production scheduling
  • Sustainable construction and resilient built infrastructure
  • Risk management through green and or sustainable logistics
  • Home healthcare logistics and scheduling

Important Dates:

  • Deadline for manuscript submission: December 31st, 2020
  • Review report: March 31st, 2021 (expected)
  • Revised paper submission deadline: June 30st, 2021 (expected)
  • Notification of final acceptance: September 30st, 2021 (expected)

Note that prospective authors are requested to follow the instruction given in the website of Industrial Engineering & Management Systems (https://mc03.manuscriptcentral.com/kiie-iems)to submit their latest, original, and innovative works to this special issue before the submission deadline. A cover letter to illustrate that your contributions are matched with this Special Issue is necessary. Please select the article type as “S.I.: Sustainable Logistics” in the first step of submission. Otherwise, your submission will be considered in a regular issue.

Guest Editors:

Overview:
Big Data plays an essential factor in the wheel of management of organizations in the world’s business so that Big Data has been receiving significant attention in a variety of research and application fields as business and management over recent years. The volume of data generated by computers, people, software, and networks along with the related difficulty of the scientific community involves creativity in organizational management. In business, the ability to work with various types of data - management techniques will provide highly technical expertise to the organizations and governments that they need to operate effectively. In addition, the increasing interest in big data analysis and applications in the management activities indicates that the digital domain field is likely to soon become a data-intensive one. This Special Issue will present selected samples of the recent research on the use of advanced methods in management science in the wide field of Big Data Analytics, technologies, models, strategies, and methodologies. It will address common principles and technical approaches to data analysis and computational methodology used in the business field, and potentially create doors for further study and advancement of innovative analytical tools and techniques in Big Data applications. This special issue aims to motivate researchers in the field of managing data to publish their latest research, up-to-date challenges, and opportunities.
